The Quill of Mnemosyne
On this, a relatively cloudy April day, in the uncivilized wilderness of North Wales, something amazing is happening… A young Welshman has decided that there isn’t enough nonsense on the internet, and that it’s about time he contributed his own brand of fictional insanity upon the world wide web.
Alright, maybe it’s not that amazing, at least not for anybody else, yet… But I like to think that there will be plenty of people who will look back upon this day and be thankful. People who are glad that on this day, the 8th April 2024, The Quill of Mnemosyne was born. I really rather hope that I number amongst those individuals.
What is the Quill of Mnemosyne?
It’s a sort of Hub, I guess. You could think of it like my own brand of Netflix, except without the subscription fees, and with tiny chapters or pages rather than episodes.
I find I enjoy writing microfiction that follows one story in multiple stand alone sections. I figured if I enjoy writing it, then someone might enjoy reading these serialised short stories. So that is what I do here. Stories in instalments, episodic micro novellas, comic strips without the pictures (for now at least.)
Why Mnemosyne? Who is that?
So, I am a great lover of mythology, especially Greek mythology. You will no doubt see plenty of references and inspiration that stems from Greek mythology in my writing. Mnemosyne was the Greek Goddess of Memory. she was the mother of the nine Muses, and was herself considered one of three early muses, (the patrons of the arts before the Muses were born) She was extremely important to storytellers in ancient Greece, orators and actors particularly, since they relied on memory, and she is credited with the creation of language itself, without which storytelling would not exist. So, with all these things in mind, I asked her if I might borrow her quill… She said no… so I decided to pretend I had it anyway… Hence Quill of Mnemosyne… Unfortunately, I am not the mouthpiece of a goddess, but she is a great influence on my work.
How often will new instalments be added?
For now I am looking to add to each story/series weekly, that starts with the Argocosmica, which will release on Mondays, but I have plans for other series to be added to the line up in the coming weeks, and plan to include some stand alone one off shorts. (some of which may have the potential to return if people enjoy them.)
