Of all the Poetry I have written this month My favourite was inspired by possibly the lowest moment. (As they so often are.) And not just a low point for me, but for the world. It came as we all joined together to mourn Dolly Parton.
Celestial Tour is a tribute to Dolly, and rather than focusing on what has been lost. I tried to honour her by focusing on what might still be. What happens next, where she might be now.
So, here it is.
Celestial Tour – In Memory of Dolly Parton
The gates were opened, out she stepped
From pure white limousine
To take the stage, perform her set
The best there’s ever been!
Her fans assembled, cheers and roars
We’re heard across the clouds.
The start of her celestial tour,
Brought legendary crowds
Then curtains opened, lights were lit
And volume turned up high,
Whilst silence fell, they wanted this,
They’d waited all her life.
Her voice rang out and warmed the hearts
Of folk from every age.
A brand new chapter saw her start
Upon the greatest stage.
And as she sang her voice regained
The luster of it’s prime.
She had been feeling slow and drained
But now began to find
Her body moved in ways she hadn’t
Dreamed of since her youth
And so she danced, the clouds went mad
With roars that raised the roof.
So on she played, and on she sang
A series of encores
As through the heavens, voices rang
In endless calls for more.
That night will live in memory,
The start of something big,
Now Dolly plays eternally
In that Celestial gig!
